AMERICAS: U.S. Says bin Laden Not Assassinated

In an interview with the BBC, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder claimed the special operations strike that killed Osama bin Laden was "not an assassination" (BBC), but a "kill or capture mission." Holder said bin Laden would have been taken into custody had he surrendered.

Bin Laden's death is a real and symbolic blow to al-Qaeda, and its stature in the Middle East is already diminished by the pro-democracy movements in the region, but the group remains lethal. Seven CFR experts discuss.
